ABSTRACT

Lucien Scubla provides a sustained and knowledgeable discussion of the neo-Frazerian thesis that I have defended in the first chapter of this book. 1 We are agreed on one essential point: the reality of ritual regicide, which Frazer insisted upon but which was denied by his successors for a long time. I am delighted by our agreement on this point. Let me come, then, to our amicable differences.
