ABSTRACT

The Caspian Sea Housing Company is a real estate company in the business of developing social housing under a government programme directed to reduce the housing deficit in an eastern European country. Caspian Sea Housing is owned by two families, and managed by a professional team. The housing business is the only successful one and it sustains the families and these other businesses, mainly from its high dividends. In fact, the group has become a burden to the housing company, because it has to distribute its total profits as dividends and because it must devote its resources and talents to help the other family businesses. A relevant recent development: excellent business opportunities became available recently since competitors are cash-strapped and are willing to sell assets that are synergetic with Caspian Sea’s strategy. In this chapter, the author tries a more active role by meeting the new members and attempting to be in contact with each other outside the boardroom.
