ABSTRACT

This paper introduces eLCAP, a standalone LCA software for quantification of the environmental impacts of pavement projects. eLCAP is a web-based tool for conducting life cycle assessment for pavement using the UCPRC life cycle inventory database and aims to serve a wide variety of users: academia, government agencies, and contractors. It is focused on project level decision making and comparison among design alternatives. eLCAP is integrated with PaveM (Caltrans pavement management system), the Caltrans version of the RealCost life cycle cost analysis tool, CA4PRS (to simulate construction, congestion, and user delays), CalME (pavement design tool for asphalt pavement), and Caltrans’ implementation of PavementME (pavement design tool for concrete pavement) through use of same traffic databases, pavement performance models (where applicable), definitions, and other data. This provides Caltrans with a comprehensive suite of tools for improved design and management of their network.
