ABSTRACT

Over the past two decades, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government has aimed to position Hong Kong as the capital of Asian sports events (Cheung, Mak, & Dixon, 2016). During the Covid-19 pandemic, the closure of sports facilities and schools became part of the community’s anti-epidemic measures and is considered a non-pharmacological intervention for the spread of coronavirus diseases. The impact of the pandemic on Hong Kong’s sports will provide useful insights for sport professionals. This chapter reports the findings of an in-depth analysis of how Covid-19 has affected the Hong Kong sports industry; in particular, in the areas of elite sports, community sports, and electronic platforms in sports. Interviews with eight sports leaders and documents were used as the main sources of data, which were analyzed using triangulation techniques.
