ABSTRACT

On 9 May 2007, Norwegian and Brazilian police launched an international operation, ‘Nemesis’, targeting ‘Pakistani’ gangs in Oslo, the capital of Norway. Investigations had found that a particular branch of the B gang, the six Rasool brothers, had invested a huge amount of dollars in flats and hotels at a new holiday resort in the beautiful Natal area of Brazil. The police confiscated documents and contracts relating to flats, luxury boats, cars, and other assets. Six B gang members were detained, along with more than 20 of their affiliates in Norway and Brazil. The mother of the Rasool brothers, aged 56, was arrested at Oslo Airport as she returned from holiday in a sunny village in the Pakistani Punjab. One wife, one ex-wife, and the father, aged 63, were taken into custody in Oslo. It was an international operation, and it came as a surprise, but it was based on extensive planning and coordination between police forces in Norway and abroad.
