ABSTRACT
We may not give much thought to it, but the connection between music and drugs is one that has been around for longer than we care to admit. They are both features of a vibrant youthful scene. In this chapter we shall examine the way in which drug consumption is represented in urban music, a genre selected due to its popularity amongst youth, a high-risk group in the consumption of drugs. In this context, drugs refer primarily to illicit substances such as cannabis, cocaine, and amphetamines.
