ABSTRACT

Being given a life sentence is like being told by a doctor that you’re going to die, you know, like you’ve got a terminal illness. You feel as if your life’s effectively over. And even when you’ve got your head down and started doing your time it doesn’t get any better ‘cos you don’t know when you’ll be able to start your life again, or even if you’ll get that chance. It’s every prisoner’s greatest fear you know … that they’ll be taken out of here in a coffin.
