Decades on from that initial critique, we can find, as outlined in Chapter 1, many accounts of female offending, and, increasingly, of male offending interpreted through a gender lens (Connell and Messerschmidt 2005). Debates about the gender gap are still current, but they have been enlivened by the older ‘liberation causes crime’ arguments, which now manifest themselves in more recent concerns about convergence.
