ABSTRACT

While these efforts have increased the sustainable development focus of the CDM, the overall CDM portfolio remains dominated by a small number of countries, and a significant number of projects appear to have few discernible sustainable development benefits. As yet it is too early to judge the extent to which the CDM has delivered on this objective, but the evidence to date suggests that the contribution of the CDM to sustainable development may be less than what was envisaged when the Kyoto Protocol was negotiated.
