ABSTRACT

GWPs are determined as a ratio of the climate impact of an instantaneous (i.e. “pulse”) emission of a greenhouse gas relative to that of emitting the same amount of CO2. For instance, if 1 kg of methane (CH4) were released to the atmosphere, the GWP provides the number of kilograms of CO2 that must be released to result in the same radiative forcing, that is, the global warming impact.
