Introduction

The notion of ‘European security’ is well accepted in the academic and policy communities. In Europe in particular, states, international institutions, non-governmental organisations, university departments and think tanks refer to the idea of European security as a generic concept that has found its place in the broader framework of international policy thinking and policy-making.
