ABSTRACT

Travel features regularly in Indian newspapers, usually in the Sunday papers, but also in other supplements. Travel columns constitute an important component of Indian popular culture for the sheer volume of work produced which supplements blogs, TV shows and specialized magazines such as Outlook Traveller. Newspaper columns range across various kinds of tourism: from adventure to urban, rural India to foreign locales. Travel columns are usually impressionistic, and are at other times akin to tourist guidebooks in their information content (travel writing is a notoriously hard-to-define and amorphous genre, as Jan Borm has argued, 2004).
