ABSTRACT

There are those who say that they take no interest in what happens to the world after they are dead. For my part, this is not the way I feel. I like to think that present actions may bear fruit in the future, even if I shall not personally take part in that future. I like to think that civilisation will continue to improve, and the opposite thought when it comes, as it sometimes will, is depressing. In these days, when the immediate outlook is somewhat gloomy, the thought of a more distant future is often cheering.
