ABSTRACT

The aim of body composition analysis is to differentiate and quantify different body compartments. Given the health implications of overweight and obesity, and the reduction in lean mass and bone density associated with various disease states, assessments of body composition are frequently employed in clinical, research, health and general settings. In applied sport settings, a single assessment may be used alongside other physiological tests as a measure of preparedness for competition. Furthermore, repeat assessments are useful in evaluating the effects of changes to exercise and/or dietary regimens on body composition status.
