ABSTRACT

Contemporary young people move between media in an eclectic and equable fashion. ‘The dispersal of narrative’ (Thompson, 2003, p. 74) among different contemporary formats means that they expect to meet their stories in many media guises. They will encounter many adapted texts; they may also expect to produce them. Current adaptation theories must take into account that reception today includes production; many readers now create and publish (often online) their own adapted versions.
