ABSTRACT

The construction industry is a vital part of the economy of Hong Kong. Table 4.1 shows the contribution of the construction industry to the gross domestic product (GDP) of Hong Kong. In 2007, the total gross value of construction works performed by main contractors increased by 2.7 per cent in nominal terms of HK$99.7 billion and by 0.4 per cent in real terms between 2006 and 2007. These figures support the contribution of the construction industry to the economy of Hong Kong.
