ABSTRACT

Film schools often require actors for their students’ graduation projects, in exchange for expenses and a DVD copy of the movie, which you can then include on your showreel. Casting breakdowns for

these films are usually advertised on Shooting People, Mandy.com, PCR, Castweb or other information services, but if this type of work interests you, contact the schools (which are listed in Contacts) to ask how and when they cast and whether they keep general files of actors’ details. Send them yours, especially if a particular school is based near you. The interesting thing about working with student directors is that you never know how their careers will progress. I remember talking to an elderly American actor some years ago who told me he was in the graduation production of a young film student back in the 1950s. The director worked his way up, becoming a legendary name in Hollywood and he remembered the actor throughout his illustrious career, giving him good character roles in seventeen major movies.
