International organizations as entrepreneurs of environmental partnerships

Public-private partnerships are an increasingly common aspect of international politics. Such agreements between states, international organizations, and non-state actors have proliferated particularly rapidly in international environmental governance (Kaul 2005; Andonova 2006). This chapter examines the growth and patterns of international environmental partnerships. In particular, it seeks to disentangle the relations between international organizations, which have been the traditional intergovernmental managers of cooperation and partnerships.
