ABSTRACT

This chapter will provide some more detailed examples of global issues drawn from textbooks, teaching materials, documentation and interviews with teachers. Because textbooks tend to respond only slowly to changing ideas about a subject, they are not necessarily the best source of identifying some of the most recent curricular shifts in emphasis. While many have incorporated some global issues into their texts, they frequently do so by simply adding on to their existing geography curriculum. In contrast, Web sites with teaching resources, geography magazines and journals or documentation on teaching geography are often where new approaches to teaching are most clearly described. For this reason a variety of sources has been drawn upon for this chapter.
