ABSTRACT

Since the late 1970s China’s economic reforms have brought about an unprecedented surge in rural-urbanmigration. This continuous rural-urbanmigration flow was accompaniedby the arrival of transnational corporations (TNCs) toChina from all over the world, especially from Hong Kong SAR, Taiwan Province of China, Japan, theUSandWesternEurope.Newgenerations of internalmigrants have been working for transnational corporations (TNCs), which are either directly owned by or operate as joint ventures with large American and European companies, or their Chinese contractors and subcontractors in the export-processing zones of China’s industrialized towns and cities.
