ABSTRACT

Even the most obvious and reliable of patterns can be deceptive. Each day the sun rises and passes in an arc overhead, setting in the West. Seasons succeed one another forming the calendar cycle. Until relatively recently in human history, it was believed that the earth stood still and that it was the sun that was moving. Careful assessment of better data on the motion of planets, and a willingness to incur the wrath of official dogma, led to a better understanding of the solar system.
