Land, interlinking markets and rural poverty in transition countries

Much has been written about the transition process that occurred in the formerly centrally planned economies of Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. In particular, an extensive literature exists on the changes and transformation of the agricultural sector and their consequences for output and productivity (see Rozelle and Swinnen 2004 for a survey).
