The problem of the wife who is ‘chained’ (aguna) because, though a rabbinical court maintains that she is entitled to a bill of divorce (get), her husband refuses to grant it, has elicited two types of halakhic responses: those that are limited in their application and effectiveness, and those that seek a global solution.
