ABSTRACT
So what was it about Derrida’s philosophy that excited so much hostility? The accusation was similar to that which Socrates faced, that he was corrupting the youth by propounding a sceptical nihilism about truth and value. It is this accusation that I want to examine here, so that one can understand both why it arises and why it is misplaced.
