ABSTRACT

Despite considerable improvements since the days of persecution, starvation and blockades under the Taliban, the Hazarajat continues to face both economic marginalization and relatively minor internal disputes. Nonetheless, the Hazarajat region is generally more secure than the other provinces described in this volume, with the absence of the massive stockpiles of arms common in other areas of Afghanistan. Problematically, outside of central Bamyan, little is known of the communities that constitute the majority of either the province or the region, particularly in its remote western corners.
