ABSTRACT

Ireland is well known and highly regarded for its music. As the then Taoiseach (Prime Minister) Bertie Ahern stated in 1998:

music and writing have always played a central role in the social and cultural life of Ireland. Not only is music a source of entertainment, but it is an effective way of recording Irish history and communicating its stories widely throughout the country and the world.1
