Researching academic staff: The case of colleges and universities

This chapter examines the research that appeared in my book College Academics (1997). The book is an insider study from two perspectives: that of an academic studying other academics and of an academic studying the institution that he worked in. The chapter also makes reference to my ongoing insider research, tentatively called Beyond the Ivy League, and to my book, Civic Leaders and the University (2003).
