ABSTRACT

Entrepreneurship in Mexico has become more dynamic as a result of structural reforms introduced in the last 20 years. The census data show (INEGI 2004) that 162,000 new businesses were created per year in the period 1993-2004, with the size of the business community increasing from 2.5 to 4.3 million, a net average annual growth rate of 5 per cent. This growth in new ventures was much higher than that in the rest of Latin America and was similar to that in East Asia. The figures mean that for each firm that already existed in the market, 0.68 new firms entered the market (Table 7.1).
