ABSTRACT

The ancient Silk Road trading route has been transfigured. One no longer experiences a fatiguing caravan trip, but jet lag, when China and Europe as the two ancient civilizations in the East and West meet. China and the European Union (EU) are active in developing a future-oriented comprehensive and strategic partnership. The two sides have no confrontation on matters of fundamental interests, but share more and more common interests. The Chinese government has stated that: “There is no fundamental conflict of interest between China and the EU and neither side poses a threat to the other,”1 and “the common ground between China and the EU far outweighs their disagreements.”2
