ABSTRACT

The international network of fanatics who deny the Holocaust has slowly grown in recent years, gathering some degree of momentum in the wake of the Iraq invasion and Iran’s recent conference on denialism. However, few atrocities are as perniciously and as systematically denied as the Armenian genocide. Turkey is a democracy, a European Union aspirant, and a longtime member of NATO. Despite these accomplishments, it continues to hold that the Armenian genocide is a fiction perpetrated by Armenian terrorists and nationalist zealots. The government continues to persecute individuals and countries who oppose its view of events.
