ABSTRACT
William Crookes, the father of the discovery of isotopes, wrote in 1886 in the journal Nature:
When we say that the atomic mass of calcium is 40, what we are trying to say is that the core part of atoms of calcium is 40, but there is a small number of atoms which have a mass 39 and 41. Others much smaller are 38 and 42 and so forth.
