ABSTRACT

In this brief paper, I am going to revisit, to some degree, something I wrote over ten years ago (Barton 1993). This will involve drawing on more recent debates and ideas within disability studies as well as material relating to sport. The intention is to be informative, provide supportive illustrations for my developing arguments, and to raise questions for discussion. This must not be seen as a final, authoritative statement on these complex issues, but rather some critical observations, which I hope the reader will actively engage with. In this process, we are all learners.
