ABSTRACT
Life in Kings Cross: A play of voices is a radio play in which I experience, and experiment with, a Deleuzian approach to writing. It is a play that sets out to evoke a particular place – Springfield Plaza and the surrounding streets and alleyways of Kings Cross, Sydney – and it brings that place to (an imagined) life through the people who live there and who pass through it. I used as my model Dylan Thomas’s (1954) radio play Under Milk Wood, a play about the life of an imagined village in Wales. Like Under Milk Wood, the play covers a period of 24 hours, and contains the multiple voices and the dreams of an array of characters whose lives briefly intersect with those of others who inhabit Springfield Plaza and its surrounds.
