ABSTRACT

The global workforce is made possible with communication technologies of different kinds. A signifi cant part of workplace education for information technology professionals is generally understood to be teaching people to use specifi c technological systems. Less attention is paid to the impacts and broader potentials of communications technologies at work. In this chapter, I argue that the major challenge for work-related education with regard to ICTs is not mastery of the technological system, no matter how complex it might be, it is helping people to understand the social and political implications of the technologies they use, and will come to use in the future, within their own work contexts.
