ABSTRACT
The continuing review and development of ocean and coastal policy in Australia and Canada in recent years, coupled with periodic efforts at rethinking and restructuring the institutions and processes of ocean governance, have stimulated a renewed interest in the role of the community in marine and coastal affairs. This chapter examines the evolving role of the community in ocean and coastal management in Australia and Canada, with reference to case studies from each country.
