ABSTRACT

Peter Drysdale has been a key figure in all of the PAFTAD conferences from the first in Tokyo thirty-six years ago, to the latest, from which this book is drawn, in Jakarta in December 2003. He has participated in all but one of the twenty-nine conferences. Through all of these years he has worked from a base at The Australian National University (ANU), as a lecturer and then Professor in Economics, and since 1980 as Executive Director of the Australia-Japan Research Centre.
