ABSTRACT

The analyses conducted in Chapter 4 concentrated largely on the individual effects of specific factors on the electoral fortunes of APE parties. This chapter will compare the relative impact of those factors that have emerged as significant explanatory variables in the analyses. Before the multivariate models that will be used for that purpose are introduced, a short summary of the main findings of Chapter 4 is in order:

H1 The impact of the electoral system: the bivariate correlation analysis revealed the expected negative relationship between the electoral system variables and the APE parties’ combined vote share. The “effective threshold” was found to be the most appropriate explanatory variable for the purposes of the multivariate regression analyses.
