ABSTRACT

Editors’ introduction

In December 1997 John Tiffin, Lalita Rajasingham and Nobuyoshi Terashima began an action research project to implement a HyperClass on the Internet. Essentially this has meant a series of test transmissions with consequent development of the technology that has established the technical viability of a HyperClass on the Internet. In parallel to this they are developing a pedagogical design process for the HC based on a neo-Vygotskian approach to education as a communication process. They anticipate that education will be the first major application of HR and aim to have the first HyperCourses in a HyperClass setting offered as part of a Master’s course in a HyperUniversity in the early years of the new millennium.
