ABSTRACT
On propositional views, management appears as a unified practice which can be applied in a scientific way. This view is systematically critiqued for defining management in terms of its control functions, for confusing order with control, and for denying human agency as the creative spirit of organisations (see, for example, Wheatley, 1992: 22).
