ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to give a brief overview of psychodynamic psychotherapy. I will look very briefly at the underlying theory and what psychodynamic psychotherapy involves in practice. I will consider some of the specific issues in relation to women. Various forms of psychodynamic psychotherapy are described, as are some broader applications of psychoanalytical ideas. The chapter ends by looking briefly at some of the feminist criticisms of early psychoanalytical theory and subsequent developments in theory and practice.
