ABSTRACT

We head towards a knowledge-driven society. A society in which the management of organisational intelligence becomes the essential resource of any organisation. Yet the most prominent approaches focused on organisational intelligence, namely ‘learning organisations’ and ‘virtual organisations’, only view knowledge from a limited perspective. They focus either on people or on technology. To meet the challenge of knowledge management in a cyberspaced future, a broader view is necessary. We believe that the concept of ‘interfaces’ provides such a perspective, as it allows us to blend people and technology, as well as endo-worlds and exo-worlds. However, this is not without risk. An interface approach will not only change fundamentally the way we do (knowledge) management but also the way we do business. But that is Zukunftsmusik. Let’s first start with the future’s promises.
