ABSTRACT

In a recent workshop for practitioners, participants were asked to depict their experience of working with young people who sexually abuse by making a physical model using a range of craft materials. One model comprised a small figure, the worker, walking on a high wire between two parapets, balanced only by a wide pole. Behind her, waiting to take their turn to attempt this high wire act, were several more workers, on the ground prowling around underneath was a bear. Several of the other presentations used wild animals or monsters to depict a sense of danger and threat. In contrast workers were typically represented by small, isolated figures, in one case, simply by a small piece of blue tac. Another group introduced their presentation by throwing a ‘hot potato’ around.
