ABSTRACT
This chapter is concerned with recent changes in work-a massive worldwide transformation of occupations and the pattern of employment-and their implications for developing a smart workforce as a strategic response. These changes derive from drastic changes in the international economy, prompting different ways of organising workers and facilitated by new technology. They affect almost every aspect of life in the industrialised countries and beyond.
