ABSTRACT
In 2004 the Research Team at the Pen Green Children’s Centre was introduced to the work of the Mass-Observation Project (Madge & Harrisson, 1939). Founders Charles Madge and Tom Harrisson recruited
Volunteer writers who kept monthly diaries of their day-to-day lives and sent them in to the Project and
observers who went onto the streets of their towns and neighbourhoods to record what people were doing and saying in the shops, pubs, churches, football grounds and workplaces.
