ABSTRACT
Are you in danger? This is a question not often asked within social science research, but
we argue that there are a range of dangers involved in investigating social life of which
researchers should be more aware. These dangers have often not been explored, or in
many cases even identified, in methodological literature. Here, and in the contributions
which follow, we aim to remedy this gap by making danger visible and explaining its
relationship to data collection and the understanding of social phenomena.
