ABSTRACT

In 1977, the first coherent programme on youth employment appeared in Italy. To gauge the impact of these measures detailed studies were conducted on its direct effects on the beneficiaries as well as on the contextual variables which influenced the programme’s conception and management. It was the first, and practically the only, case in Italy’s history of integrated research on the condition of young people, their expectations and motivations regarding work as well as the situation of and forecasts for young workers on the labour market.
