ABSTRACT
There is an increasing tendency within tertiary institutions to utilise courseware, originally developed for distance education students, for on-campus teaching and learning. Teaching and tutorial staff need to be provided with staff development and research findings that will help them to be responsive to individual student preferences and to ensure that these materials are used appropriately and effectively (Jevons and Northcott 1993; National Council on Distance Education 1996:6).
