ABSTRACT

In this chapter, Nancy Coyne recorded what happened when she sat alongside four-year-old Louise as she was drawing a special picture for Nancy. Aware that adults can intervene inappropriately and impose their agenda on a child, Nancy struggled to leave ownership of the drawing with the child. She attempted to pay close attention to what it was that Louise was doing rather than focusing on the end product the actual picture. Nancy, by trying to tune in to Louise’s agenda, allowed Louise to be in control. Nancy’s role as the was to help Louise reflect on what she was doing and to validate her explorations.
