ABSTRACT
The tick list I made showed me that all of the boys used the sand tray compared with only three out of a total of five girls. It also showed that the boys used it more often than the three girls who did. Amelie and Heidi, the two girls who did not use it at all, would seem to be excluded. Therefore a gender difference showed in the children’s behaviour patterns (bearing in mind the limitations of this one source of data). Making the tick list raised my awareness of who used the sand tray, how and when and brought to my attention the fact that differences between children exist. I would like to encourage the girls to use the sand area more in their play and will try to do this by:
• Spending more time at the sand tray myself to show them that it is an area of the room I value and find interesting.
