ABSTRACT

The second chapter in Part III was written by Trish Franks, on the Early Childhood Studies Scheme and working at the time in a center for children under the age of 5 in inner London. As one of her assessed assignments Trish wrote a Child Study and, in the following extract, you can see how she has used her experience of observation and developed her skills of analysing her observations to allow her to arrive at some conclusion about a child. Although many workers are experienced and skilled at observing children, they often find it difficult to know what to do with the they have gained from the observation. In her analysis of Kizzy’s learning Trish most closely on her physical and social development. She carefully details just what conclusions she can draw from the evidence she has gained through her observations.
